SPECIAL EVENT
International guest speaker -
Mark Halawa
From Kuwait to Jerusalem
Monday 11 February
8.15pm at
Seed,
Edgware
Entrance by donation
Born to a Palestinian refugee family in Kuwait City, Mark Halawa went
on a journey that has taken him through continents and cultures.
As a child in Kuwait, Mark Halawa’s normal included proudly donning
his PLO boy scout uniform to march in the troop's regularly scheduled and
virulently anti-Semitic parades. Storming the streets of Kuwait City, the boys
were encouraged to burn Israeli flags and chant against Jewish demons and
infidels who “rape” the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Halawa's story begins two generations before his birth, when his
grandmother Rowaida, born a Jew in Jerusalem in 1930s British Mandate
Palestine, met and fell in love with his grandfather, a Jordanian army soldier
named Muhammad al-Masri from Nablus.
His incredible story of crossing both literal and spiritual borders in order
to rediscover and connect with his Jewish roots will leave you speechless
and his message of understanding and tolerance is one we all need to hear.
