The Lipton Legacy
Vibrant, generous and courageous in the face of adversity, Wendy Lipton sadly
passed away in February of this year, less than a year after the passing of her
husband Gerald, to whom she was married for 44 years. Born in Hackney and
raised in Hendon, Gerald Lipton MBE was the founder of Chinacraft - the leading
independent retailer for the finest English china and crystal for over 60 years.
As well as being a talented businessman he was also communally minded,
as a board member of Western Marble Arch Synagogue as well as Chairman
and later Life President of Nightingale Hammerson. He was a keen golfer and
frequent bridge player, and for many years he also studied Torah at home
in his spare time with Rabbi Joey Grunfeld, National Director of
Seed
.
Their children Carolyn, Jane, Sam and Tim, wanted Gerald and Wendy to be
remembered through
Seed
’s Generation Sinai programme, and dedicated the
programme in their memory. Thanks to the Lipton’s legacy, in May 2018 over
5,000 parents, grandparents and children were given the opportunity to learn
about tzedakah together in 22 Jewish primary schools around the country.
